ELECTRIC VEHICLE SUPPLY EQUIPMENT (EVSE) SERVICE & MAINTENANCE LEVEL 2
TRAINING COURSE

WTA’s Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) Service and Maintenance Level 2 Training prepares fleet technicians to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair Level 1 (120-volt AC) and Level 2 (240-volt AC or less) charging equipment with confidence and precision.

Building on the foundations of our EVSE and Charging Systems course, Level 2 EVSE Service and Maintenance training expands a technician’s capability into practical service procedures, advanced diagnostics, and commissioning activities essential for ensuring reliable charging operations in fleet environments.

Technicians begin with a focused review of EV and charging fundamentals, including charging modes, system components, communication pathways, and the operating principles that govern safe energy transfer. The course increases technician awareness of the characteristics and maintenance needs of different EVSE manufacturers, charger styles, and auxiliary equipment found across depots, public facilities, and workplace charging installations.

A key emphasis of Level 2 is hands-on troubleshooting and maintenance. Technicians learn to inspect, test, and service AC charging units; evaluate wiring and grounding integrity; verify connector and inlet condition; and identify component degradation or contamination.

Training includes the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), specialized tools, and diagnostic instruments such as digital multimeters and oscilloscopes to analyze pilot signals, communication faults, contactor operation, and supply voltage irregularities.

Advanced instruction covers EVSE communication protocols, charger-to-vehicle ‘handshake’ behavior, and the failure modes that lead to intermittent or complete loss of charging capability. Technicians practice structured diagnostic procedures to determine whether issues originate from the EVSE, the vehicle, or the supporting electrical infrastructure. Additional modules include charger commissioning steps, software and configuration checks, status code interpretation, and proper documentation of service activities.

By the end of Level 2, technicians possess the skills required to perform preventive maintenance, identify and resolve complex “no-charge” and “reduced-charge” issues, and return charging stations to service quickly and safely. This training strengthens fleet readiness by improving EVSE reliability, reducing unscheduled downtime, and ensuring that electric vehicles receive the charging performance necessary to stay operational.
