INTRODUCTION TO HEAVY-DUTY ELECTRIC VEHICLES LEVEL 1
TRAINING COURSE

WTA’s Introduction to Heavy-Duty Electric Vehicles (EHDV) Training Course provides both new and experienced fleet technicians with the essential knowledge required to work safely and effectively in the growing electric heavy-duty vehicle industry. This course establishes a strong foundation in high-voltage safety, EV architecture, and the fundamental systems that power modern electric buses, trucks, and specialized commercial vehicles.

WTA’s Intro to EHDV is designed for technicians transitioning from diesel or alternative-fuel platforms, service managers, fleet supervisors, and commercial vehicle inspectors. Our Electric Heavy-Duty Vehicles Level 1 training delivers a clear, practical introduction to heavy-duty electric vehicle technology, and safety practices unique to heavy-duty electric propulsion.

Technicians learn the core concepts needed to support basic service operations, understand system layouts, and prepare for more advanced EV diagnostics and maintenance training.

Course Topics:

High-Voltage Safety

  • Introduction to high-voltage components, hazard identification, PPE requirements, lockout procedures, and safe-down practices specific to heavy-duty platforms.

Charging System Levels

  • Overview of AC and DC charging equipment, connector types, charge levels, and the communication process between chargers and EHDVs.

Battery Pack Maintenance, Service, Troubleshooting, and Repair Techniques

  • Fundamentals of battery construction, thermal management, fault indicators, inspection practices, and safe handling procedures.

Electrical and Electronic Controls

  • Introduction to power electronics, high-voltage switching, control modules, and how electronic systems manage propulsion and auxiliary loads.

High-Voltage Electric Drivetrain Components

  • Overview of traction motors, inverters, DC/DC converters, contactor assemblies, and drivetrain layouts used across heavy-duty EV platforms.
